Meet Santa, shop with local vendors, or simply get to know your neighbors during the season of giving as Oak Island Parks and Recreation offers special events for all generations.


Gingerbread Beach House Contest: Free

Don’t miss out on the fun of the holiday season with the OKI Gingerbread Beach House Contest! Partnering with local business, Nancy Jo's Homemade Bakery, islanders show off their baking talents in a community wide contest that will be sure to make the holidays especially sweet. Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony: First Friday in December

Spend an evening with friends and family as Oak Island ushers in the magic of the holidays! Kick back and relax before the Christmas rush as the island community comes together to enjoy an evening of live entertainment, kids activities, and a visit from good ole’ Santa!

**Free hot chocolate will be available for event goers while supplies last.**


Holiday Craft Market: First Saturday in December

Support local business owners while wowing your family and friends with one of a kind gifts from the Oak Island Holiday Craft Market. Unique  crafts, and delicious treats await shoppers! They is a endless array of both indoor and outdoor shopping opportunities, to inspire your holiday spirit!


Santa's Calling: Free

Children of the Town of Oak Island will have the opportunity to receive a personalized phone call from the OKI Santa Hotline! Watch their eyes light up, as Santa talks about what their good behaviors were this year (and maybe something to improve) plus discover your child’s special gift request!

***Due to popular demand, this program is for local children who are residents of Oak Island, NC only. Registration forms will available at OKI Recreation Center only.***


Supper with Santa: Rates & Fees Apply

What does Santa like to eat beside milk and cookies? Sit down for a holiday meal with jolly Santa, and other Oak Island families! This fantastic photo opportunity also includes seasonal craft stations and the reading of “The Night Before Christmas.”

Santa Paws in the Park: Free

The holiday season is going to the dogs. Bring your furry friends to Middleton Park Ext. on SE 46th St. for a chance for Fido to share his Christmas list, and get a photo with Santa! While this is a free opportunity for islanders, please consider bringing pet supplies or pet food as a donation to our area animal shelter friends this holiday season.


Candy Cane Hunt: Free

Oak Island's twist on the traditional egg hunt. Search for candy canes and green & red eggs on the softball field at Bill Smith Park (4446 Fish Factory Rd. SE, Southport, NC) while enjoying hot chocolate and visit with Santa. Great photo opportunities
