The Earth Day program, held in Middleton Park on the Friday nearest April 22, is organized by the Parks and Recreation Department and attracts enthusiastic school groups and families. Beach Preservation hosts a booth to teach the groups about the beach and their responsibilities for it. A Beach Lover sticker and a craft activity are take-home reminders for the young people.
NC Aquarium Programs
Each summer the Beach Preservation Society hosts monthly visits to the Recreation Center by outreach educators from the NC Aquarium at Ft. Fisher. The free, hour-long programs engage visitors, families and summer campers in learning about and interacting with the animals that live in the sea. Dates and times of programs are announced by flyers around town and notices on Facebook. Join BPS and the Aquarium for these excellent programs!
Upcoming program: August 10 at 2 p.m. – Sharks!
