New info regarding water service cut offs (June 2)
The Town of Oak Island EXTENDS Suspension of Disconnection of Water Service for Non-Payment in Compliance with Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order EO 124:
In an effort to assist our customers during this period, effective immediately, the Town of Oak Island will not cut off water to residential customers for a period of sixty (60) days for non-payment. The termination date of this Order is subject to extension by the Office of the Governor of NC, EO 124. (This is an amendment of EO 124 enacted on March 31, 2020). Additionally, no new penalties or fees will be charged as of June 1, 2020 for non-payment during this time frame moving forward.
Following the termination of this Order by the Governor, the Town will establish an optional payment plan for repayment of past due utility charges. Payment plans will not exceed six months from the date of termination of this order. We encourage all customers to continue to make all payments in a timely manner if you are able to do so. Cut off of water service may still occur for health and safety reasons and to commercial accounts.
