Town Hall and the Rec Center will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. The convenience site on Airport Road will be open on a normal schedule on Friday -- from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (The site is for residents and property owners; furniture, electronics, etc. are accepted). Work resumes on FEMA dune project

Work on the FEMA Emergency Dune Restoration project resumes Friday (November 17). Crews will begin grading beach access points and sand placement should start Monday. The project will again start at SE 58th Street and work west. We will issue updates on the progress as the project moves forward. We are excited to get this project going again. We ask everyone to give crews plenty of room when you see them at work, and we thank you in advance for your patience as crews work on the beach. Continue Reading

Siren test today for nuclear plant — 10 a.m.

There will be a test of the Emergency Sirens located within the 10 mile area around the Duke Energy Brunswick Nuclear Plant today, November 8th, at approximately 10 am. The test will sound the sirens at their full volume for a period of three minutes. This is an annual test that is conducted to ensure that the system is operating properly. Because this is a test, there will not be an Emergency Alert System Message following the sounding of the sirens. Boil advisory for customers on East Yacht between E 18th and E 28th

The water consumers in the area along E. Yacht Dr. from the intersection of E 18th St. eastward to E 28th St are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a damaged main. Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.   Therefore, the Town of Oak Island advises that when water is restored, consumers in this area boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water. ... Crews repairing broken pipe on East Yacht Drive
