Webinar on Challenges Resorts Towns Face — August 22 at 11 a.m.
Please join us for a webinar presentation on the unique challenges resort towns face and the financial impacts meeting these challenges has on our communities. The webinar will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at 11 a.m. (in Council Chambers, Oak Island Town Hall). The webinar will feature Dr. Rebecca Tippett, Director of Carolina Demography at the UNC Carolina Population Center and author of the RTCC-commissioned report, Benefits and Challenges of Tourism for NC Communities. Dr. Tippett will present the results of her study, which focuses on measures of the fiscal impact to tourism-based communities in meeting service demands from peak seasonal populations.
The webinar is presented by the NC Association of Resort Towns and Conventions Cities and is being hosted by the Town of Oak Island (one of the city participants in the study).
This is an eye-opening impact study webinar that the public, staff, and elected officials will find interesting. It will help all of us understand the significant impacts that we all experience during tourist season. This study is just one of the methods that RTCC is using to convey our message to the General Assembly that we need financial assistance from the State for shoreline protection and other regional projects with statewide benefits.
